So we have an exact tie between choices #1 and #8 in the previous poll. As such we'll have a run-off between those two choices...so everyone please vote for one of the two below.

Poll will be open for 1 week.

#1 -- The Classic Logo
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/JJGeo/desmoNorthWestsmall.jpg

#2 -- Seattle Skyline and Motos
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/JJGeo/untitled.jpg

Personally I like #8 because it is essentially the classic logo with some additions to bring in the moto and Seattle themes.

The cool thing about the skyline logo is that on a sticker, if you don't like the skyline it can be easily cut off and presto- classic logo!

The 2nd Logo tells others who aren't privvy to know what desmo means what our club is about. Northwest motorcyclers (who ride ducatis if you have the inside scoop). #2 gets my vote and a double woof from the boys.

There's only one I'd consider for a high performance Italian bike.

And there's one for a high performance toolbox or cage transportation.

The skyline would be dual purpose if separation is created between the bike tires and the font.

I think that the classic Desmo NW is more inclusive of the entire Ducati community, not just those that live in Seattle. Perhaps stated more succinctly, the non-classic logo seems Seattle-centric and fails to recognize that all NW Ducatisti do not live in Seattle.

I often see people from Port Angeles, Portland, Spokane, Winnatche posting on this site. They are members as well. Let's be more inclusive.

It isn't trying to be exclusive or anything...just define desmo (motos) and northwest (NW US). Besides the skyline, it also has Rainier, which everyone in the region (well, except for OR folks) can see. :)

I also agree with Sieg...I would'nt put the entire sticker on my track bike. I'd cut off the top part for that. I'd put the whole thing on my trailer though. I also think the entire thing would make a cool shirt.

I think I'll chime in on the skyline logo.

Several versions have been created, depending on what the logo would be placed on. The version shown would be for something like an embroided patch (which is why the lines on the sides intersect with the bikes) or a simple line sticker with the white areas transparent. A full sticker/t-shirt version uses a filled area for the skyline. Speaking of the skyline, it actually includes buildings from Portland as well as Seattle, the building to the far left is the US Bancorp bldg (big pink) in Portland and a bit to the right of the Space Needle is the KOIN center in Portland. The thing is that the Space Needle is such an iconic structure.

The mountain is actually a morph of both Rainier and Mt. Hood. I was including as much of the Northwest as possible, afterall I was born in Oregon. :)

The only thing I see negative about #2 is that those are all current line up bikes on there. What happens in a few years after the models have changed?

We just buy a new one every year to keep the Ducati math contest alive!:happy44:

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I, of course, singled out no individuals nor pointed any elbows.

I think maybe the bikes could be updated to match :puzzled:

Can someone please shrink logo #8 to 319 x 43 pixels so we can actually see what it would look like in direct comparison to our current logo? I've yet to see any version of any proposed logo in acurate size for it's intended use.

Current Logo is 319x43 pixels. (it desperately needs a transparent background)
http://www.desmonorthwest.com/forums/images/misc/desmoNorthWestsmall.jpg

I think logo #8 will cause printing problems for stickers as the skyline artwork is very thin, and the thickness/feel of the skyline and bikes will change heavily when shrunk to be printed for bike stickers. Again, would recommend sizing #8 to actual sticker size so we can see how it would look.

Not trying to speak badly of the new proposed logo, just trying to bring to light how it might look like in it's practical application.

That's a good idea JD, although I think our current logo is too small.

The re-sized logo should be the same size (actually, just height as length can vary) as the ads on the top right of the page so everything matches.

The ad is 480 x 60, although the 60 dimension is the key. The length can be larger if needed to keep the proportions equal.

OK...lets see if i did this right. I just resized them in Paint.net, then uploaded them to photobucket to show here. I just changed the vertical pixel dimension and left the aspect ration locked.

Pixel Height of 60:
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/JJGeo/Cityscapelogo.jpg

Pixel Height of 100 (this should still fit on the top of the site):
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n258/JJGeo/Cityscapelogo2.jpg

The 60 is too small IMO...the 100 looks OK for the site though...possibly with some minor tweaking by Heathbert. Again...these are "concept" logos. They will likely require some minor tweaking depending upon the use.

I'm not worried about stickers...like Sieg said, for a bike there's always the option of cutting off the top portion and just going with the club name, like the classic logo. For anywhere else the full sticker would look good. We can order a large enough size to look good. The last DNW stickers were pretty big.

I need stronger glasses

The skyline logo has great potential for shirt backs, messenger bags, cups, key fobs, and maybe hats.

Having a separation so it can be cut or electronically altered would make it versatile..............IMO

For diecut decals the skyline would a PITA though.

All in all good work Heathbert.

Agreed.

We could possibly do die cut decals of just the club name, and regular stickers of the entire thing.

With the slight separation it would make die cuts cut and paste easy.

Thanks for the assist Jeremy.

I created the image using Illustrator, so it can be scaled to any size without pixelization (you want a banner that's 30' long, can do).

Here is the skyline as a 195x81 pixel image:

http://heathh.smugmug.com/photos/803038929_VFanj-L.jpg

And it could be altered for some other uses (191x77pixels) - Notice this image also has the Sport Classic represented.

It's difficult to do a transparent background since any transparent areas are turned white when converted to a jpeg. But to give you the idea, here are a couple of images.

Just some things that could be done with the "city to mountains" design, clearly they are not perfect, just to give an impression of the concept.

Thank you. I was asking as I was curious what background color the logo would be for our home page. I think transparent for our home page looks really good. IMHO.
By the way. Try exporting transparent as .gif.

Cool application ideas Heathbert!

Now we need another poll to decide what colors the decals should be available in (yellow would be a cost effective way to add speed to any bike, right?) and what swag we should order with the logo on it. A ball cap with the logo stitched on the front would be cool.

Jeremy/Greg C- would swag items be a fund raising opportunity for the club? Not suggesting we sell DNW stuff to non-members, but letting the club make a profit from a run of t-shirts, mugs or something for ourselves.

That's the plan for shirts.

I like both designs, however I can only see myself using #2 design for coffee mugs or a T-shirt. As for a sticker on a ducati or a car I would only use design #1. That being said I would prefer #1 because it is more versatile. Or like the other guy said separate the words from the logo more so we can cut it off. Might as well just go with logo #1. :)

So looks like Logo #2 won with a 62% majority.

We'll keep concerns about stickers in mind, and maybe make one that can easily be cut or something.

We should have some DNW swag to announce pretty soon! :cool2:
