View Full Version : track tire question

Tomorrow I'm buying one of Andy's R6's to use for track days and will need to replace the tires. I have the option of getting some slightly used dot race take offs or using Pilot Power street tires. I have the PP's on my 916 and love them but am wondering if the race tires will make that much of a difference and how long they last. I'm not looking to race, just improve my line and my time around the track. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've always felt it was worth the money to get new tires when going to the track. Especially if you are still dialing the bike in. You won't have to look very hard to find a set for under $300. There will probably be some good deals at the Motorcycle Show next weekend.

I have pilot power street on my 748 and pilot power race(med. soft) on my track bike and if I were you I would spend the money on a new set of race tires. Not much of a comparison between the two, the race tires make you feel like you can do anything on them, a big boost in confidence which is key. That key can also be a drawback if you don't keep it in check and try pushing beyond your abilties.
Money well spent on a new set of race tires.

They will last depending on how hard you push them. I am sure some of the guys who race on this site can give you a better idea. My bike is light so I am assuming I should be able to get at least 4-6 track days on them. I have two on them and I will have the shop look at them next month when it is in for service and get their feedback.
