View Full Version : Painting mirrors?

How hard would it be to paint mirrors? Particularly the Rizoma Cicuit 998's? I saw some for sale but they're silver and I would like them black. Could powdercoating be an option???

unless your mirrors are solid metal, you can't powder coat (that I'm aware off).

While powder coating started as an alternative to finishing metal products only, the development of powder that can be cured at lower temperatures has allowed powder coating to expand to non-metal surfaces such as ceramics and some wood and plastic applications

The issue you'll come across is expense.

If you want to be a cheap bastige, Wesco will put urethane automotive paint into rattlecans. Sand the current finish to even dullness with 400 grit paper, wash and dry, and then paint with many thin coats and wet-sand when done. Don't use rattlecan off of the shelf at Shuck's or Home Despot; it'll chip and fade.

I ordered a spray can of red from Color-Rite http://www.colorrite.com/index.php?osCsid=30ccedbed47da7990cc60a68c7fe806c
to match my 916 and it worked well. I wet sanded the mirrors then applied a couple of coats of paint, followed up with a couple of coats of clearcoat. Buff it out and it looks fine. It's not super shiny, but it looks good for someone on a budget.
