View Full Version : De-charcoal canister'd Monster

I removed the charcoal canister and assorted crap from the right side of my Monster yesterday. Here's what I did:

1) Unplugged all (3) hoses from the canister.

2) Removed the canister itself.

3) Removed the heel plate from that side (since there isn't one on the left side).

4) Removed the two spacers from the upper right rearset mounts.

QUESTION: It looks like the other spacers (where the rearset hooks to the pipe,
and where the rearset mounts to the engine case (!) on the bottom)
can't be removed unless you get new mounting hardware. Is this a
reasonable thing to want to do? Looking at the bike from the rear it
looks like the pipe and rearset on the right side stick out more than on
the left side and I'd like it to be symmetrical.

5) Put washers in place of the heel plate.

6) The hose from the bottom of the charcoal canister was already unplugged! The far
end was sitting on top of the crankcase, so I pulled it out.

QUESTION: What was this line supposed to plug into? I see what looks like a
little diaphragm down in there with something missing...maybe that
was it. I wonder if I need to cap that or disconnect it all...

7) One of the upper hoses fed into the two intake manifolds - I removed the
nipple things that were screwed into the intakes and replaced them with
shortened bolts. It was tough working on the vertical cylinder because there's not
much room to work with the battery still in the bike!

8) The other hose was a feed from the gas tank. I removed that and capped the
nipple at the gas tank.

QUESTION: Is this a bad idea? If my tank *needs* to vent out of this line, maybe
I should add a line that vents to the ground? The last thing I want is
a vacuum in my tank that makes it implode...

That's all. Looks cleaner, combined with a fresh license plate relocator (from Evoluzione) and raised ride height.

I was suckered into buying a kit off Ebay that came with all the correct parts and pieces with very good instructions. Cost me 30 bucks. Now imagine this. I crack a High Life, go to pull it off, and my canister is missing. Seems the nice guys at DucSea did me a favor and took it off when they remapped the FI for the new pipes. I thought I was losing my mind for a minute. The kit came with the spacers too make the rearsets even. You can have the whole thing for 10.00 bucks (brand new in box) if you want. It tells you how to reroute the hoses. You can see the add on ebay if you want.

The instructions would be neat to see, but otherwise no thanks. I already replaced the spacers and got screws for the intakes. Be a real champ and scan/post the instructions for me to see? =) Please?

Hey Mike, Brent (Serv. Tech) was in the process of writing you a response last night but he couldn't get it to post ? If you want to stop on down we can show you the routing of things. Basicaly the hose that comes off the tank needs to go toward the ground for overfill drain and it must be open. As far as the spacers go remove them and set it all up just like the left side.
