what kinda prep work do you have to do to carbon body work ?

you know what i searched the web all night lookin for info on how to do this. i came up with nothing. i talked to a buddy who does paint for a livin and he said to just take it to a shop. i said NO NO SIR!!!

so i just sanded the gel coat with 600 grit. wet sanded i should say. then i rubbed the panel down with alchohol and let it dry. masked and papered the panel and primered the area. let it dry gave it a light sanding then began to lay down the red. let the coats go about 10min in between. layed down 6 coats of red. then i layed down a equal amount of clear. the panel is now hanging in the garage curing for a few days before i stripe it.

i was really nervous how it was gonna turn out. but im happy. i wanted the paint to match the contour of the gelcoat and it did pretty well.

i have a cousin who restores alfa romeos in his garage. he has painted several with spraypaints. he gave me a few tips on how to make it even and match up well. from what i gather its all in the prep work.

i have been painting with a airbrush and cans since i was a lad on my model cars and planes.

its gonna get chipped and nicked up so i am not about spending hundreds of $$$ on paint that will get messed up.
