Anyone else catch this blip on the news this morning. Happened in Ill. I think. A motorcyclist was clocked on the freeway doing 205 mph. The news related it might be the largest speeding ticket ever recieved at 140 MPH over the posted limit. I couldn't find it at King 5 on-line but if anyone finds the link post it...Troopers reported even the airplane that clocked him/her was having a hard time keeping up with the bike.

Didn't happen to be in the midwest yesterday did you Miki? :happy44:

Ya I heard that I TWT last night. They said it was a Honda 1000, but didn't have any further details. They were playing it down quite a bit obviously, tried to make it sound like the rider couldn't have been going that fast since MotoGP bikes only recently broke 200mph.

Apparently he was clocked by stopwatch over a quarter mile from an aircraft. That's a large margin of error in my book.

:scared10: That's fast! Must have been in a very straight line. I think I'd end up with presents in my pants going that fast

I bet you anything the ticket will be dropped if he fights it. He just needs to prove that his bike can't do 205 mph (which isn't that hard) and then it invalidates the ticket because the recorded speed is wrong.

I agree with Charon, those cops were just there to try to have a 15 minute fame.

As it turns out, the rider is 20 years old and he was on an RC-51.

Yeah, and I was just going to say that the MotoGP Honda JUST broke 200 mph not long ago...

The Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0922042speed1.html) has a scan of the ticket:

From the article in the above link...

Some question the accuracy of a stopwatch but Loney says in ten years his watch times have never been wrong. "I believe that the speed is very true and accurate, even more than a radar."

That's rich.

From the looks of the tickets, this guy got off pretty good. He's only at $330 before the reckless ticket... They didn't even arrest him.
Neither of them were arrested and a Wabasha County Judge will decide the fine.

The articles all say he's 20, but his DOB was '84? Not that it makes a difference...

Holy thread from the dead. Funny thing is, I was living in MN when this happened. It was pretty big news in the motorcycle community there. I actually met this kid, he autographed a hat for me. Ha! Silly kids. His RC-51 was pretty much stock too. Power commander and pipes, no way that he was going 205. And I think his dad was a Deputy or something like that.

last ticket i had was well over $330 and 6 points.... (argued down from a license loosing 12) and i was only doing "63 in a 40" my dad on the other hand was quite a bit faster on the 996.

Well ya, he was 20 when this thread was created...

I was living in Minnesota when this happened, I vaguely remember it. No way an RC-51 hit speeds like that, maybe if it was launched from a cannon in pieces.

that to me makes the 200+ even more unbelieveable. An inline 4 I can see doing that top speed with a small rear sprocket. But a twin hitting 200+? That's some serious motor building if it did

Oh ok, that makes more sense. I thought is was more recent news. I guess it makes sense that 205 would have set a record then. I know the current US record is 242 in a Bugatti Veyron in TX.
