Yo Bojuk, who's bike is this? Have you ridden it on the track, I've always wondered what this bike is like to ride compared to our ducs.

No I've never ridden it. I don't think the bike was ever ridden. Like I said, it's practically new. The bike is now owned by Jim. He acquired it as the original owner just wanted off his hands right away.

Back in 2000, I am told the bike was in the 10K range.

The bike can't be compared to a duc, or any other 4 stroke, "street" bike.

Basically, it's a track weapon, very light, very agile and you need to wring the neck of it to keep it in the sweet spot.

2/3's the power, half the weight, smaller and better.

On the road.....not so much better.

If you want to play around with a 2 stroke on track days, it's probably the way to go if it's in stock trim. If it's got the race kit installed, you'll be going through top ends and jets so you might as well get a mid to late 90's TZ.

That bike looks awesome! Sounds like a good time. Is there a good class for those bikes to race in WMRRA?

And are they cheap to run? :o

I keep looking at this RS250 on ebay - a bit more pricey than the one below and out of my price range anyway, but for comparison some may like to see:

Open Twins, 600SB, Open SB. So the answer is "No, not really"

Cheap and racing don't go together.

If you want to race "Cheap" get a CBR600 and go TFS racing.

Thanks for the advice about classes; that is very important info that I didn't know.
I do know, however, that racing and cheap don't go together. I have recently started racing cars and have found that to be quite true. I realize that racing anything is never cheap, so I was looking for running costs for this bike compared to other bikes, such as a Ducati or a TFS cbr600. Or, more to the point, is it an exercise in futility to race such a bike around here?

Not to hijack the thread, but Bafazane, can you tell me a bit more about your experience with car racing? What are you racing, in what class and what is the general damage anyone should expect to their checkbook if they figure on doing it too at the same level?

Appreciate any info,

Andy

The 250 GP class for all intents and purposes is dead, There's really only the USGPRU series back east, but that's about it. The local 250 guys actually leave thier bikes in a trailer back east, they fly out there to race the regional events.

Running/racing costs always comes down to (more $ to less):
Cost of the bike: 1. Duc 2. RS 3. CBR
Maintenence cost: 1. RS 2. Duc 3. CBR
Crash repair: Depends.

All three bikes actually crash pretty well though.
