Anyone want to join for 2 days of fun at Thunderhill in Nov? Will be a nice way to wind down the trackday season! Thunderhill is blessed with a lot of elevation changes and I hear the track has been recently repaved.

Depending on who goes we can truckpool

Sort of depends. You stilll haven't told me-- are you riding with me in Spokane on the 25th?

(BRIEF THREADJACK: There are Sullivan's track days on 9/25 and 9/26 in Spokane.)

You cannot put me on the must-be-poked-by-stick list without answering that question first. So there.

This looks like a track to my liking (no trees close by) - Think I may just have to do it! Either with the 999s or the 1098 (if I still have the 999s I'll use it). I'll be diligently slow though - haven't been riding for 2 years!

Cheers, Robert

I will not make Miller. I'll get a short solo trip in again, which will be nice, but no track days in October (of which I am as of yet aware).

Bong: I will lobby hard for the TH trip. And let you know shortly.

Is 1:48's at PR a B- or B+ at the Keigwins events?

At this point, count me as 50/50. If I go, I'll drive down Sat, run Sunday only, and drive home monday (or maybe sun night).

The town of Willows is full of hotels that cater to trackday participants. I plan on coming home right after Monday's trackday session is over.

http://www.thunderhill.com/html/lodging.html

I am meeting with a couple of cousins from the Bay Area and plan on signing up for the B+ Group on Sunday and Monday. The track does not have a dedicated supermoto track :(

It would be nice to register in the next couple of days, so who's still in?

I'm in doing both Sunday & Monday, return Tuesday. If you go to the Kiegwin's site they have several local motels where you get a discount thru them.

I am going to watch the site until it shows the slots are about full, then I will look at my work schedule, home stuff going on, and if it looks good, I'll then try and get a hall pass. A lot of things can happen between now and then, so I want to register as late as possible. If there is room for my R on someone elses trailer/truck, that would increase my chances of going too - but I don't even want to ask yet, until it is much closer and I know I can get away from work.
thanks

Stop dreaming and get join us! I am signed up for Nov 9/10 in the B+ group :happy44:

Will be staying at this place:

Baymont Inn
Next door to the Best Western, across from McDonald's (see directions above). 530-934-9700. For a $14 discount, mention "Keigwins@theTrack." (Note: this used to be called the AmeriHost Inn. If this link stops working please let us know.)
The Baymont Inn is newer with nicer, though smaller, rooms. Access to your room is through a hallway. It has two stories so there may be stairs to navigate. It has an indoor pool and hot tub. It too is near Casa Ramos.

Anyone have a large trailer that can hold 4-6 bikes?

gregc

I've got a 8 x 16 dual axle flatbed trailer that could haul 8 bikes. Gear and tools in back of trucks or Expeditions. Assuming Pete goes there would be 3 of us and 4 bikes (1 duc, 3 yamahas).

I was thinking a helmet cam for last weekend's dirt ride at Tahuya would have been pretty neat. Especially going through those really narrow trails with trees/brush right there!

I've started to get new parts on the Multi- I am working on fixing something I didn't see before:( (don't ask).
The bike is completely apart- I took everything around the engine off. It really wasn't too bad to do.

The Leo Vince cans look great and I think will look good with the 'bare posterior I'm planning on.

Have fun at Thunder Hill! (almost thought I could tag along for a bit there- but plans changed yet again).

Everything but scooter tyres, oil changes, and repair trailer wiring done on my list. Remember, it was about this time last year Bong when I met you @ Starburnt and made notes about an upcoming T-hill trip. I still have those notes and have been reviewing them along with on bike videos. New pavement looks cool but I'm going to have to change my notes on brake markers.
We're planning on rolling pretty early Sat morn. Let's touch base by phone 7:30-8:00 and see if we are anywhere near each other.

Actually, Sieg, if you'd like there is a spot on our truck on top of the R1 that you could ride down on. Might get a bit windy but you'd get there. Once there you would have your choice of Ducs and Yam's to ride. Tri-colur 749, Yellow YZF R1, baby powder blue YZF R6, Bong might even let you ride on one of those fast colour I-talian machines. I've even heard that there is going to be one of those new fangled 848 type things there. Or then again, you could just watch some swamp/pond varmit play foosball. Join us!

Ed, Sara and Robert didn't take much time to learn the track layout and were up to speed after a couple of sessions. Thunderhill is a very technical track with many blind entrances and off camber turns, 3 miles and 15 turns is a lot to take in for the first time. Here's a shot of the couple entering turn 1

What a great time! Our group included Bong, Ed, Robert, Greg (who I got to ride with, which was fun, and doesn't happen often) as well as Greg's friend Larry, and Bong's cousins George, Wilbur, and Winston (all totally awesome people).

This was taken by Dito Milian, of gotbluemilk.com. The rider with the fancy helmet is Bong, on Ed's bike for that session. That was in turn 2, a very long sweeper which is not to everyone's liking, but was one of my favorites.

Thunderhill was a blast! Great weather and great people to hang out with! Thanks to all!

The track itself is challenging and great fun - After riding for a day I still have no clue where I'm going there... It will take me some time to figure that out. Having been off the bike for over 2 years (track that is) meant I had a lot of re-learning and learning to do. This track is perfect for it. I can only recommend a trackday there. Another good thing about the track is that it has more than enough run-off area for the "worst case" scenarios. I tend to have an issue with berms and walls being too close. Our neighbor went off in turn 9 - bent his handle bars and loaded the bike with mud - that was all the damage he had.

Here are some more shots taken by Dito from GotBlueMilk.

That bobbing head in the backgrounds is Bong on the hooligan bike! He was well capable of keeping up with it. The problem is it's hard to focus if you're laughing all the time...

...as for the discussion on how to get your head down... Just fold up and do it...
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn39/rb_duc/Thunderhill/MF1A6185.jpg

...George commented I had legs everywhere - I think I now know what he means. It's easier when you're a bit taller.

I took the 999s - I still have it so I wanted to take it for a spin. The handling of the 999 is probably better than that of the 1098. Engine power on a track like this doesn't matter too much until you really know the track. And since the 999 might be sold I wanted to take it for a last spin. If it's not sold I'll take it there again!

What a fantastic time we had! Even though the ride down was in spectacularly crummy weather, the enthusiasm of everyone in our little caravan was infectious.
