Been thinking about doing this now for several months and finally pulled the trigger. Top triple, clip-ons, grips, and bar end mirrors - all Rizoma bits sourced through PJ's. Tonight I tore into it and got the new triple on with the bars. Probably another couple hours this weekend putting everything back together.

Great choice Arne. Rizoma makes some great products for Ducatis.

They are on the list!

I knew I should have posted a couple more pictures

I'll update the post as I get things back together. It was a little disconcerting leaving the garage last night with a pile of parts on my bench and the front end torn apart. It did give me a good view into what might be involved in putting on dual headlights and new turn signals however (also on the list).

Good choice on the Rizomas. I rather like mine. Nearly the same height and reach as stock, but just enough fore/aft adjustability.

I did have to flip the throttle cable to an over-the-bar position however.

Getting the control locating holes in just the right place was a bee-atch.

it can be...best trick i've found so far is using a micrometer to measure how far in the holes are from the end of the bar, and the eyeball where on the bar at that point the whole should be based on the original.

Those control holes are a bitch and they are useless too. Just cut the locating pins off the controls. Then you can rotate them exactly where you want. The clamping force is plenty strong to hold them from rotating. They are just there for the factory to easily place the controls in a position were they will not interfere with any thing when turning the bars lock to lock.Good choice on the Rizomas. So my earlier estimate of being about 2 hours away from done was overly optimistic to say the least. I am maybe 3 hours away now from being done if I don't have to bleed anything. I did a fair amount of reading on the DMF of folks that had done this before I started, but a number of lessons learned so far:

Fitment of all the controls and hoses and cables is the worst part of this and the biggest PITA was the brake hose. I ended up having to flip the banjo bolt 180 degrees and locate the brake perch in just the right spot on the bar to keep the brake line from interfering with just about everything else.
In order to get cables and hoses to route without pinching and binding on the left side, I turned the air sensor mount around on the U bracket which required some shims.
If I wasn't using rizoma grips which are shorter than stock, I wouldn't have had enough room on the end of the bars for the mirrors due to where I had to locate the perch's due to the hoses.
Yes, I have read about grinding off the pin on the controls (which I did on the left side), but there is insufficient clamping force on the smooth rizoma bars to keep it from spinning. I read some folks use friction tape underneath it so I'll try that. I intend to drill the right side.
The Rizoma throttle control comes with 3 different cams for the cable to match different bikes. The one labeled "2 stroke" is the one that is the same diamter as stock. (I wonder if it will now sound like wing ding ding ding)
The Ducati front end mounting system for the instrument cluster and the crap hiding behind the headlight is a cluster.
the stock bar ends are too small for the rizoma bars.

So, I have the front end back together, and the left side "dry fitted". I need to drill the right side now, put everything together final and torque everything down. Hopefully I didn't get any air in the hydraulics screwing around with the fittings.

I'll post up a bunch of pictures when I finish.

In the column "actually finished something", I got my rear hugger from carbonworld today and got that installed with relatively little pain.

I detest the Monster headlight. The shape is fine, but it's got the worst illumination possible. I found dual headlights to provide better lighting, and the look wasn't to bad either.

blech! :tongue10: the double headlight looks like a Speed Triple. The single headlight is what makes the monster front end complete. there are other upgrades available for better lighting, or you could mount prettier headlights from other bikes, but the single unit is part of the Monster lineage, otherwise they would have went with a dual headlight long ago.

just one man's opinion of course, YMMV :action027

Ok, here is finished product. Rizoma top triple clamp, clip-ons, grips and bar end mirrors. Clearances are really quite small in places.

Arne's award for most annoying fastener: The nuts and bolts for the fly screen. You have to remove the instrument panel to hold the nut.
Runner up: the threaded post and rubber bushing and associated threaded top post that holds the instrument panel. Prone to cross threading and mis-alignment. So as a combination since they go together, a pain.

Drilling the bars was actually pretty painless. I put some electrical tape on the bars where the "nubs" go, and then tightened down the controls. The indentation left in the tape by the nub is where you drill. No measuring or guessing.

A note on the Rizoma stuff: Fit and finish as close to perfect as I have experienced. Tolerances spot on, finish and packing are impeccable. Absolutely no flaws. Documentation and instructions: non-existent. The only positive on docs was that there was torque values for the top triple.

Ergos: Width of bars virtually same as stock. Height about 1" lower than stock. Distance from bar end to center of tail of bike virtually the same as stock.
