Glad you made it safely, Bill. Next time post pics.
    I will, for sure Bong!
Now I know what to expect, next time I'll be a bit more relaxed about stopping to appreciate the sights.
    Cheers, Bill

As usual, it is tighter and steeper than it looks.

I went to Gifford Pinchot last weekend, I've never ridden the trails there before.

Some pretty fun stuff, some had more exposure than I like anymore- never used to bother me. Now I think of all the things that can go wrong.

You can skip to around 9 minutes to get to the higher stuff.

Pros and cons of leaving behind the invinsibility mindset of our youth. The "Go for it" impulse is replaced by "Ohhhh..falling here would be bad....have I reached my out of pocket maximum on my insurance?". Really messes with your head when you're trying to have fun, but not giving into it completely keeps us somewhat sane I think.

Yilkes, some of those sections looked pretty sketchy! I've heard about those trails but have never been - where did you stage from and can you lead the way?

We were camping on the Lewis river, some 30 miles from Cougar.

Not sure if I will do them again! The ones without exposure were great- although some had a LOT of big step-up.

What happens when two old guys trade in their Ducs for dual sports? Kurt and I took our big blue bikes to Tahuya to give the off-road thing a try. Navigating the rocks, roots, and ruts is hard work! Seasoned dirt riders can have a laugh at our struggles to stay upright

I haven't followed what bikes you guys currently have.
If they are big bikes, I assume you did the two-track stuff at Tahuya?

If you want some great Forest Service roads I can lead you one some out west of PA.
the trails are probably too hard on a big bike. (I sent two guys on DRZ400 with full gear down one 'easy' one. I had to ride both their bikes out!)

My Monster met its demise last summer and I have replaced it with a Triumph Tiger 800xcx. Kurt has a Yamaha Super Tenere. Not sure where we were exactly in Tahuya. We stuck to the larger trails, leaving the single track to the dirt bikes. Our bikes, IMO, were perfectly capable and suited for what we were on, just challenging for off-road noobies. I'm sure with some practice, they would be a breeze. There's a dual-sport riding camp on Vancouver Island I'd like to attend this summer.

I'd like to give the FS roads out your direction a try. Promise not to get in over my head and need someone to ride my bike out
